THE ECLECTIC MONIKER - DENMARK (Copenhagen)

I couldn't be so selfish to keep my great discovery to myself, so I'd like to introduce... The Eclectic Moniker!

'The Eclectic Moniker is a pop band emphasizing equally a great dance party as well as an interesting listening experience. They've added their own little twist of indie to a myriad of references with Paul Simon and west-african popmusic as some of the more striking.
Their music is inclusive and for everybody that wants to listen and they really just want to carve a big happy smile in your face'
source

I have a feeling that their recent release is A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER as name indicates...
It is worth to spread the word about them! I must mention my first 'victim' - Arletta - who was infected with their music by me ;-) She will pass this positive infection on to Polish people by this post:  dobrebodunskie.blogspot.com

If your ears want to be pleased , visit their official website right now! ;-)

(Etymology)
"Eclectic" means: made up of or combining elements from a variety of sources.
"Moniker" is another term for a nickname, pseudonym, or cognomen. Typically, the title is used as a personal or professional name, instead of the person's given name, for works of art, music, books, or performances.
This is how the band explains their name: 'The Eclectic Moniker means, in essence, the nickname under which lots of different parts is put together to create a coherent universe.'

'After many years gigging as a sideman, Frederik Vedersø, started focusing on what might could be done with an outfit of his own.
Incidentally of more melancholic poprock-ish descent, it turned out that the pop idiom was far more fruitful to navigate for the danish guitarist and singer.
The band started out as a trio, but grew into a spectacular musicians collective of 10 old friends primarily from The Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense who met up on Nørrebro, Copenhagen, almost simultaneously, everyone of them eager to pursue a life in music.
The group has existed since February 2010. In this time the band has toured in Denmark and Germany, recieved airplay on danish and german radio and played a memorable gig at Start! Festival 2010 in Copenhagen.
The crux of The Eclectic Moniker is as such the coming together of many different and lovely parts both musically and personally, to create a bigger wonderful coherent whole.
The band is currently gigging in and around Copenhagen whilst producing material for a release sometime in 2011.'

Emilíana Torrini - ICELAND (Kópavogur)

You may know Emilíana Torrini thanks to her "Gollum's Song" from "The Lord Of The Rings" soundtrack, or one of her most popular hit "Jungle Drum"; or perhaps you have watched wonderful scenic documentary movie about music in Iceland & Greenland "Music From The Moon", and you were charmed by woman with lovely accent and stunned by her ethereal vocal and then you found out that this is the same person who made songs, which I mentioned at the beginning... ( yes, I had to smuggle my own story ;-) ) Regardless where you discovered her, the most important thing is that you did; and now you can verify how much you know about her. But if you are discovering her right now, I'm even more honored to introduce her lovable music...
'An Icelandic singer/songwriter whose music embraces elements of folk, electronica, pop/rock, and trip-hop, Emiliana Torrini has earned favorable comparisons to such vocally gifted artists as Beth Hirsch, Kirsty Hawkshaw, and Björk.'

Kópavogur

EMI, Rough Trade Records

Torrini grew up in Kópavogur, where, at the age of 7, she joined a choir as a soprano, until she went to opera school at the age of 15. In 1994, she became well-known in Iceland after winning the song competition of junior colleges in Iceland (Icelandic: Söngkeppni framhaldsskólanna), at the age of 17, singing "I Will Survive".

Her father is Italian and her mother is Icelandic. Because of name regulations in Iceland at the time, her father Salvatore Torrini had to change his name to "Davíð Eiríksson", which also implied that Emilíana Torrini had to use the surname after her father in the traditional way; "Emilíana Torrini Davíðsdóttir". A few years later, the name regulations were changed,[1] and she was again allowed to use her original surname.[2][3]

She grew up with her parents in Iceland. Her father owns and operates a well-known Italian restaurant in Iceland (Italia, located at Laugavegur 11 in Reykjavik) where she once worked as a waitress. After playing a session of gigs in London, Torrini decided to stay and live there. She has one child, a son, who was born September 6, 2010.
